The Devil Wears Prada

Dayton OH’s The Devil Wears Prada (TDWP) are getting set to release their sophomore effort Plagues this coming August on Rise Records. The new album, Plagues, a follow up to 2006’s Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord, furthers the band’s metal-driven, synth-laden dual vocal attack with unexpected twists and turns in composition, larger melodies and a more-focused, but no less savage, aggression. Anticipation for the release has been building, and a two-page feature is slated in Alternative Press, who listed TDWP in their “100 Bands You Need to Know” issue proclaiming that the band is “Shape-shifting metalcore.” Plagues will feature guest vocals from vocalist Craig Owens of Chiodos, whom the band just confirmed a fall tour with. TDWP is very much looking forward to this tour, tells vocalist Mike Hranica. “Chiodos crowds always tend to be open minded, and we are looking forward to the kids coming out. We’ve been on a bunch of heavy tours recently, so this will be a shock to the system for sure.” TDWP is currently on the monster Sounds of the Underground tour alongside All that Remains, The Number 12 Looks Like You, Gwar and Shadows Fall. This is their largest tour to date, and it has been really interesting for the band, tells Mike, “It’s been really great because we are making new fans all across the board, with the kids and the other bands, who we hang out with all the time.” Before going out with Chiodos, the band will be doing some dates in Mexico, which will be their first international tour, and Mike says, “The Mexican scene is really interesting because they are eager for shows. Culturally this will be a unique situation, since we are all from the middle of Ohio!”

TDWP burst onto the scene last year with Dear Love, which was a passionate album possessed of equal parts slithering metal riffage meshed with plush rock passages, and the reaction was overwhelmingly positive, scanning over 30,000. Critically the album did well also, with Rock Sound describing them as “Underoath having a shouting match with Bleeding Through.” Additional kudos came from Revolver, Metal Edge and many more. Hailing between the ages of eighteen to twenty years old, the group composed of Hranica, Daniel Williams (drums) Chris Rubey (guitar), Jeremy DePoyster (guitar/vocals), Andy Trick (bass) and James Baney (keys) built a national following of their peers by touring constantly and setting forth an example of an amazing live show.
